It's been so cold lately in Montreal! I just feel like hiding inside and ordering everything I need online until spring is here. I can't wait until we can do our grocery shopping online. Meanwhile, I have been adding new items in my Etsy shop regularly. One new character pillow (Yay!), paintings and a new set of pink owls. I also received new fabrics for a big project I want to bring with me at Ascendio in July.

Hello and happy new year!

Wow! What a busy year 2011 has been. I said it last last January: I want to be productive in 2011, and I think that resolution definitely kicked into high gear in February when I started selling pillows in my Etsy shop. I had been making some every week and when the Holiday period came around, I was literally flooded with orders. Not complaining here :) I also started to make little owl ornaments that also sold well.

Overall, a very interesting year of my life :)

So what next? What can you expect to see from me in 2012?

First, I can announce that I will be a vendor at ASCENDIO in July 2012.

It is a Harry Potter convention that will take place in Orlando, Florida between July 12th to15hth and I will be there with my pillows and a lot of new products made exclusively for the event. I am thrilled to be going back to Florida this year and even tho it comes with a lot of work and planing, I can't wait!

One thing that I learned in December also is not to wait till the last minute to list your Holiday items on Etsy. So this year you will be able to purchase my ornaments all year long. I have started experimenting with crystals so be prepared for some bling :)

And if you are looking for something special to give your lover for Valentine's day, I have made special listings in my shop to purchase wizard couple.

Pantoufle de Verre is now ready to take on 2012.

Un projet spécial pour Damask&Dentelle

I have started a super fun project for Vanessa of Damask&Dentelle. Her clients will be receiving a little owl ornament made with love by Pantoufle de Verre this Christmas season. She chose the fabrics and I am giving each of them a different face and personality .

I would also like to remind you that my Etsy shop will be on vacation mode between December 2nd 2011 and January 2nd 2012 and I will not be tacking new orders during that period. My ''to do'' list is almost full to breaking point and if you are thinking about offering 'Pantoufle de Verre'' items for Christmas , I urge you to order very soon. My wizard pillows are selling like hot cakes and it fills me with joy!!! :)

Je travaille présentement sur un projet trop mignon avec Vanessa de Damask&Dentelle. En cette saison des fêtes, ses clients recevront un petit ornement hibou fait avec amour par Pantoufle de Verre. Elle à choisi les tissus et moi je leur donne chacun un visage et une personalité unique. Tous les 75 seront différents!

J'aimerais aussi vous rappeler que ma boutique Etsy sera fermée entre le 2 décembre 2011 et le 2 janvier 2012 et je ne prendrai aucune nouvelle commande durant cette période. Ma liste d'items à produire d'ici là est pratiquement remplie à craquer et si vous songez offrir des objets ''Pantoufle de Verre'' pour Noël, je vous prie de les commander le plus tôt possible. Mes coussins de sorciers se vendent comme des petits pains chauds et j'en suis trop heureuse!

The Night Circus

This morning, I finished Erin Morgenstern's book and it left me in ''crazy super inspired'' mode. I highly recommend it! It a story about magic and love and is set between 1880 and 1902 in a black and white circus.

I immediately went to Etsy and made a treasury :

CHRISTMAS!!!! Christmas is my favorite. My favorite ''ALL THE THINGS!''
I know you probably think that I should let Halloween pass before bothering you with this but, I can't wait.
I secretly started listening to Nat King Cole's Christmas album on my Ipod ...

Here are my little ornaments I will be making until my fingers fall off. The are made with a mix of different fabrics, buttons and a cinnamon stick. Mix and match for a shabby chic Christmas tree.

Quelque chose me tracasse dernièrement et j'ai décidé d'adresser la situation, ici, sur mon blog.

Depuis quelques temps, je vois apparaître sur le net des coussins et autres produits ''fortement inspirés'' ou carrément copiés des designs que je vends dans ma boutique Etsy. Au début cela m'a fait réagir vraiment négativement. Après tout, beaucoup d'efforts et de travail vont dans la conception et la réalisation d'un projet artisanal et je me sens presque cambriolée de voir tout cela.

Something has been bothering me for a while now and as I can't put it aside anymore, I decided to talk about it, here, on my blog. Lately, a lot of pillows and other items largely inspired from my designs started appearing on the net. In the beginning, I reacted quite ferociously to the interesting finds because a tremendous amount of time and effort goes in the creation and production of a craft project like this. I feel robbed every time I stumble upon a copy of what I sell in my Esty shop.

Apres un peu de réflexion j'en suis venue à me dire qu'il y avait 2 types de ''plagieux'': Ceux qui copient parce qu'ils aiment vraiment l'idée et aimeraient s'en faire eux meme ou les donner en cadeaux. J'imagine que ça peut peut-être entrer dans la catégories des compliments et finalement je suis en paix avec cela. Reste le fait que mon nom n'est mentionné nulle part, mais... rien n'est parfait.

After a bit of thinking, I come to the conclusion that there are two types of copy cats: Those who really like the idea and want to make some for their home or as a single gift. I imagine we can call that a "compliment" and I think I am OK with that. There is still the fact that my name is not mentioned anywhere, but... nothing's perfect.

Examples :

Ensuite il y a les ''supposés'' artistes créateurs qui vendent des copies de mon produit pour moins cher en ventant leur bonne idée. Là, est mon problème! Ces personnes vendent des copies de plusieurs de mes designs et utilisent le concept pour en créer d'autres. Je viens aussi d'apprendre que certains d'entre eux sont maintenant fournisseurs pour des boutiques de cadeaux. Imaginez un peu ce que ça me fait! C'est grâce à ce concept que j'ai pu partir ma compagnie '' Pantoufle de Verre'' pour de bon et trouver assez de confiance en moi pour faire de la promotion.

Then, there are the supposed artists and creators who sell copies of my products, who often charge less that I do but still make a lot of profit and brag about their skills. Those are my problem! Many of them also used my idea to make other designs with the same pattern. I also just learned that some of them are now suppliers for gift shops and boutiques. How should I react to that?? It is with that simple and minimalist design that I finally found enough confidence to start my own company ''Pantoufle de Verre'' to promote my art.

Les deux photos précédentes sont des coussins fait par un groupe d'artisanat aux états-unis pour la plus grosse convention Harry Potter au monde: Leaky Con. Ils ont vendu énormément et une boutique leur a demander de devenir leur fournisseur.

These two pictures are pillows made by a craft group in the States for the biggest Harry Potter convention in the world: Leaky Con. They sold a lot of them and a shop asked them if they could carry them.

Ici, une personne en Amérique du sud vend des copies comformes de tous mes designs et en crée d'autres sur le même patron. Elle vend beacoup également.

Here, someone in South America sells exact copies of all my designs and creates other characters based on my patterns. She also sells a lot.

Je suis consciente que ce post de blog va surement être controversé. Je ne cherche pas ici qu'à me plaindre, mais à ouvrir une discussion. J'aimerais vos commentaires si vous avez déja vécu quelque chose de similaire, si vous pensez que j'ai raison de m'inquiété ou si vous trouvez que j'exagère, si vous avez des conseils ou des recours, etc. Car j'aimerais beaucoup que ça cesse.

I know this post will probably attract a lot of hate mail. I did not only want to whine to everybody but rather open a discussion. I would love to see your comments if you ever experienced something similar or if you have advise, if you think I'm right, or going crazy hahaha! I would still really like it to stop, what do you think I should do?

A big weekend at Comiccon!

This weekend was crazy! I must admit I was not expecting that many people! It kept me stuck to my chair all of the 2 days and I feel like it was just a blur :)

My pillows were very successful and I was out of business cards at noon the first day .What was I thinking only bringing 100???

Luckily, a lot of nice people left me their e-mail so I can forward them my shop. I am working on that right
now.

Thank you everybody for the nice comments and smiles. I had a lot of fun seeing people's reactions when they recognized Harry Potter in pillow form.

Quel week-end de fou! Je dois avouer que je ne m'attendais pas à une foule comme celle-la. J'ai du rester coller sur ma chaise durant 2 jours sans bouger et je pouvais à peine baisser les yeux parce qu'il y avait toujours des gens nouveaux à acceuillir. En plus j'ai manquer de cartes d'affaire le premier jours vers midi. Faut dire que d'en apporter juste 100 n'était pas le meilleur des mooves. Heureusement les gens m'ont laisser leur e-mails pour que je puisse leur envoyer l'adresse de mon shop Etsy. En haut vous pouvez voir mes photos préférées de l'événement. Geek Fest Montréal 2011

The Geek Fest is finally here. I have worked hard for the last couple of weeks to have interesting stuff to show and sell this weekend.

In addition to the pillows you can see in my previous posts, I will be selling original drawings and paintings.
Some mean a lot to me because I used them in my business card design or blog design but I am now ready to let them go. I also have a couple of artist trading cards I will be selling for 10$.

If you are in the area, Geek Fest looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Give it a try!

Le Festival Geek est finalement là! J'ai travaillé très fort durant les dernières semaines pour avoir des choses intéressantes à vendre et à montrer.

En plus des coussins geek que vous pouvez voir dans mes postes précédents, je vais vendre des dessins et des aquarelles originaux. Plusieurs d'entre eux m'on servi a designer mon blog et ma carte d'affaires donc ils sont très importants pour moi. Mais je crois que c'est un bon moment pour m'en séparer.

This painting was commissioned by someone I used to work with as a teenager. He always knew I was an

'' artist'' and he as asked me to capture this happy moment for the Christmas gift he is giving his wife. I worked a lot of hours on it and I think it paid off.

I hope He is happy with it. We will see!

2011 !?!

Time! Where have you gone? 2011... Can you believe it???

Yet again, It's time to look back and set new goals for the coming year.
Let's see.

These were my resolutions for 2010:

-Draw more. I can't say I have... I have made some pieces but almost nothing.
-Make a porfolio I am happy about and not ashamed to show. Work in progress...
-Make a small collection of paintings. Still in my head
-I NEED to switch my day job. Did not happen
-Submit my work at major animation studios. Naaaa didn't do it...

What I Have done in 2010:
-Moved
-Traveled to China
-Sold 1 painting
-Became better at sewing
-Designed a business card and a logo
-Started spinning classes to try and motivate me to get back in shape. (This might be the most unexpected one)

In addition to all I did not do in 2010, in 2011 I want to:

- Design my own fabric to make my new quilt creations.
- Take new ballet classes: character and repertoire.
- Go back to teaching ballet. ( More news on that at the start of January. I am excited!)
- Paint more freely. I struggle with what people are gonna think of my subjects and techniques. I want to get rid of that fear.
- Create a collection of Christmas cards to sell in craft fairs.

I think 2010 was more of a weird transition year for me and I had a hard time finding motivation to do anything. It's OK, I forgive myself. Only 10 more days of relaxation tho! Serious business starts again in January.

Also a Christmas favorite of my sister and I. If you like period films with gorgeous aesthetic and music, this one is for you.

A classic story adapted from Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel about an orphaned girl taken to live in a dark manor.

I just love the ambiance in this movie: Dark, but beautiful. And I want to wear every piece of fashion in this movie...

This one is probably hard to find.

I have watch this whole series multiple times when it used to play on ''Canal Famille''. Also a favorite of my little sister. Beautifully done for the time with great British actors.

I think this show sparked an interest in miniatures in my sister and I. Around that time, I started making mini dresses for my sister's Kelly dolls and we would build small houses out of Pringles chip boxes. Great memories...

Movie you need to watch this holiday season: Mary Poppins

This movie is at the top of my ultimate all time favorites and is even more enjoyable around Christmas time. I can not count how many times I have seen this movie in my life! So good! AND it has animated sequences.

Yes, it's a musical... But I am sure everybody can find something to like about it. I made my boyfriend watch it for the first time last year and he really enjoyed it. Give it a try. You will be Singing ''Step in time!!'' for days.

It's that time of year again!

Here is couple of pictures of my decorations . I have made the beige wreath using a tutorial on Design Sponge . I must say I am quite pleased with the end result. It is nowhere as gorgeous as the one in the reference picture but, I am satisfied.

Also, this year will be my first Christmas living with my boyfriend. I most say it is much more fun decorating a house that someone else but me will get to enjoy.

I decided to take part in the sketchbook project. At the start of 2011, there will be a tour where you will be able to look a everybody's original sketches.

From the available themes, I chose ''Boys ans Girls''. In part because I can't, for the life of me, draw a boy or a man! So this will be good practice.

Since I moved, I have been receiving the J Crew catalog addressed to the lady who lived here before me . So many clothes I like in there! If only a single shirt would not be over 100$...
Anyway, I felt like trying my hand at fashion illustration with the J Crew models for inspiration.

Scott pilgrim vs. The world. Here is a game I did some research and pre-production for . My boyfriend Stéphane Boutin is lead artist on it and it makes me so proud!!! Seems to be a highlight of E3 this year.

Je serai absente de l'internet pour 17 jours à partir de mardi prochain. Je pars en Chine ! :)
Mon amoureux est labas pour le travail depuis 2 mois et demi et je m'en vais lui rendre visite.

La vie est bizarre des fois, l'Asie ne m'a jamais intéresser plus que ça et ce n'est surement pas le pays que j'aurais choisi pour mon prochain voyage. Mais Maintenant que l'occasion se présente, je suis super contente. Je vais visiter le pays de Mulan. (héhé!)

Je vais tenir un journal de bord avec mes aventures en dessins. Je vous montre tout ça en revenant.

I am going on a trip to China ! Next Monday and for 17 days, I will be absent from the net.
My boyfriend has been there for two and a half months already and I am going to visit him.

Life is sometimes weird. Asia has never attracted me as a travel destination and I probably would not have chosen China for my next trip. But now that the occasion is there, I am so happy to visit Mulan's home :)

I will be drawing every day in my travel journal and you can be sure I will post some of my adventures here when i come back.

The secret of Kells

Après des mois a espérer avoir la chance de voir ce film, je me suis rendu compte qu'il jouait au AMC forum avec plusieurs autres films qui étaient nominés aux Oscars. Joie!

Ce que j'en ai penser? Un mot: Style.
Ça fait tellement du bien aux yeux de voir de l'animation 2D, de la vraie! Et tout est designé de façon impeccable. Toutes les poses clefs des personnages sont parfaites dans tous les sens du mots. En fait, j'aurais même pu regarder un film qui s'appelle '' The hands of Kells'' et j'aurais été quasiment aussi enchantée. Les artistes en ont tellement poussé l'estétisme que des fois, l'animation en souffre un peu. Les inbetweens sont juste infaisables entre deux poses de mains aussi stylisées. Donc souvent, on saute d'une à une autre sans transition. Mais on s'habitue rapidement et je crois que ce choix en a vallu la peine.

Durant tout le film, je me suis rappelé quand j'étaié au cégep en dessin animé et que nous rêvions tous de travailler sur des longs métrages et de faire nos propres films. Et bien ces genx ont réussi. J'aurais vraiment aimé qu's gagnent l'oscar du meilleur film animé à la place de UP. Ça montrerait peut-être aux autres studios qu'il est possible de faire un bon film animé sans jokes de pet et avec des artistes seulement.

Things I want to do this year

2009 is almost over.

What am I happy about?

-My Purrcasso piece. I can't believe I made it all the way to sending it to California. October is always the busiest month of the year for me and I managed to squeeze this drawing and printing in there. Hurray for me! I still wonder if someone bought it.

-I posted 83 times this year! More than ever. That was a resolution I had to draw and post more on my blog . I'll try to beat that number for 2010.

-I crafted a lot. Cushions, quilt, paintings. It kept me creative and excited about projects.

-I did life drawings. I still need to do more.

What do I want to do in 2010?

- Draw more. It's always the same. I start the years with loads of drawings and studies but fail to draw anything in November and December. I'll try to keep it up this year.

-Make a porfolio I am happy about and not ashaimed to show. My current one is outdated and ugly!

-I have the idea of making a small collection of paintings I could show together. Something small like... 10 pieces? (I know , it's a lot)

-I NEED to switch my day job. It is killing me slowly. Takes up all of my energy for things I hate doing and I am dead when I come home at night. I just don't know where to look...

-Submit my work at major animation studios (In california). If I don't do it this year, I never will. And regret it forever...

That's about it. I am excited to start all of this. Go Kim go!

I haven't posted anything in more than a month...
But don't think I am being lazy!

I have been working hard on too many craft projects at the same time that i want to give as Christmas gifts, so they need to be finished a soon as possible.

I am also working on Christmas cards designs That I will only show here once they are all in the mail :)

So this time, I am going to leave you a few of my favorite things of the moment:

- Paule's knitting blog. Lots of cute stuff . And I can't believe how fast she is! Looks like she did 13 million hats in a month!

-D30 pointe shoes. I have not tried them yet, but I should receive the pair I ordered from discount dance next week and let me tell you: I am so excited! I really have high expectations for these shoes.

-Uliana Loparkina in this variation of Raymonda. What can I say... I LOVE IT!!!!! Everything about her is perfect.

-Ponyo. I think I saw it 2 months ago but I still think about it. Which is really rare with movies these days. And those who know me well know that I am not a fan of Asian animation. But this blew me away.

-Gordon Ramsay's F WORD season 4. I love this man. And his cooking. But you really need to watch the first 3 seasons also!

and lastly

-Lucy Knisley and her comics. I just discovered her this week and I fell in love. She is so funny!

Purrcasso is an art and craft auction and gala that benefits the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society in Berkeley in California. I thought it was a super great idea to raise money for abandoned cats and dogs. This is my donation :)

This is Alicia Alonso. She was a ballerina born in 1920 made famous by revolutionizing the ''entrechat 4'' (the very fast crisscross step) in Giselle. She danced this role on stage until she was 73 years old! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!! This makes me feel so much better because sometimes I think i am getting a bit old for ballet.

I spent last weekend far from the city near a lake. It was great! But the kids that were there needed entertainment.They wanted me to draw Cinderella. I quickly figured out I would not be able to draw the prince, so I asked my boyfriend to try. I think the result Is pretty funny :)

J'ai passer une superbe fin de semaine près d'un lac. Les petites cousines de Stéphane avait besoin d'etre amusées alors elle m'ont demander de dessiner Cendrillon. Petit sketch rapide fait en une heure. Je voulais voir de quoi aurait l'air ce tableau si c'était moi qui l'avait peint. Je me suis rendue compte que meme si je l'interprétait a ma façcon, ca me faisait pratiquer des notions de dessin et de peinture plus en profnodeur, comme par exemple les racourcis et les jeux d'ombres et lumieres. Définitivement a refaire!

Quick one hour sketch. I wanted to see what this masterpiece would look if I had painted it. It was a lot of fun to do and I came to realize that even if I do it whatever way I want, I still get to practice some drawing and painting notions such as lighting and composition. Definetly an exercice I should do again soon!
